Fernande Chiocchio

Fernande Chiocchio (born May 29, 1929 in Montreal ) is a Canadian singer (mezzo-soprano) and music teacher.

Chiocchio studied piano at the École supérieure de musique de Lachine and was a singing student of Pauline Donalda and Rolande Ouimet from 1950 to 1955 ; She also took lessons from Rachele Maragliano-Mori and Philon Ktsanes and Jan Doat (stage technology). She made her debut with Donalda's Opera Guild in 1952 in Prokofiev's Love for the Three Oranges at Her Majesty's Theater . She later appeared with the ensemble in other roles, such as Mercédès in Carmen (1960), Flora in La Traviata (1962), Marthe in Faust (1963) and Suzuki in Madama Butterfly (1965, 1969).

In 1958 she toured France with a vocal quartet. With Josèphe Colle and George Morgan , she founded the Trio vocal de Montréal in 1963 , which was mainly heard on the CBC radio . On CBC television she played a. a. the title role in Ravel's L'enfant et les sortilèges , Mère Jeanne in Francis Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites (1960) and Berta in Il barbiere di Siviglia . At the international summer academies in Nice in 1966 and 1967, she completed her training with Pierre Médecin and Iris Corradetti .

At the Montreal festivals Chiocchio appeared in Igor Stravinsky's Les Noces and Harry Somers ' The Fool (1962), Jules Massenet's Werther (as Charlotte, 1963) and Gilbert Bécaud's L'Opéra d'Aran (as Mara, 1965). at the Opéra du Québec she sang the novice master in Suor Angelica (1971), the Maddelena in Rigoletto (1972) and the Emilia in Otello (1973).

In 1978 she took part in performances of Gustave Charpentier's Louise and Jacques Bondons I 330 at the Nantes Opera . After giving singing lessons at the Conservatoire de Hull from 1967 to 1977 , she taught privately in Montreal from 1982 onwards. From 1984 to 1988 she was artistic director of the Opéra-Comique du Québec . In 2006 she was in the Panthéon canadien de l'art lyrique of the Opéra de Montréal received
