Josèphe Colle

Josèphe Colle (born August 24, 1929 in Nancy , France ) is a French-Canadian singer specializing in soprano and music teacher.

Life

Josèphe Colle studied psychology at the University of Montreal , BA 1955, and music at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal (CMM) with Yvonne Hubert, among others, and later took singing lessons with Martial Singher .

She became a Canadian citizen in 1958.

With the composer on piano, she sang the world premieres of François Morel's Quatre Chants japonais in 1954 and Les Rivages perdus in 1955 . At the Paris Conservatory she studied music theory with Olivier Messiaen in 1955/56 and choral conducting in 1958/59. In Montreal, Colle attended the singing class with Ruzena Herlinger in 1961/62 .

In 1963 she founded the Trio vocal de Montréal with George Morgan and Fernande Chiocchio . The trio sang the world premieres of Gabriel Charpentiers Jamais and Gilles Tremblays Kékoba . In 1965 she founded the group Rencontres musicales with Maryvonne Kendergi . From 1965 she gave music lessons and solfège at the CMM, and between 1968 and 1975 she helped to rebuild the conservatory in Tunis .

After her return from Tunisia, Colle held teaching positions at the Université du Québec à Montréal , 1974 to 1978 at the Conservatoire de musique de Trois-Rivières and 1979/80 at the CMM. Colle also worked as a commentator on the CBC radio .
