Status: end of career

Fernando Santos (born February 25, 1980 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a former Brazilian soccer player , who is usually just called Fernando .

The central defender comes from the youth department of Flamengo Rio de Janeiro , where he started his professional career in 2000.

During the winter break of the 2003/04 season, Fernando moved to TSV 1860 Munich in the German Bundesliga , but was unable to prevent the Lions from relegating in his ten missions . At the end of the season he left the club again and moved to FK Austria Wien on a free transfer .

But the 191 cm tall Brazilian only stayed half a season with the violets before returning to his home club Flamengo. He played there until December 2006 and was henceforth without a club. In 2006 he won the Copa do Brasil with the team .

In the 2007/08 season Fernando played for the newly promoted Bundesliga MSV Duisburg . He signed a four-year contract there. However, he suffered a cheekbone fracture after regular missions at the beginning of the season's final spurt and could no longer help in the relegation battle. After 14 Bundesliga games and the club's relegation, the contract that was also valid for the second division was canceled. Fernando played with CR Vasco da Gama from 2008 to 2011 . After a few stints at other Brazilian clubs, he ended his career in 2005.
