history
After the Ryugyŏng Hotel, it was one of the world's highest investment ruins . Construction of the Yekaterinburg television tower, which, like most modern television towers, was constructed as a reinforced concrete structure, began in 1983. It should be 361 meters high and, in addition to the broadcasting facilities, also have a restaurant.
However, in 1991, in connection with the collapse of the Soviet Union , funds ran out and the tower was discontinued when it reached a height of 220 meters. The unfinished tower was used by adventurers and extreme sports enthusiasts for climbing and base jumping . According to official information, three people have died in accidents or suicide.
The structure was blown up on March 24, 2018.
The multi-purpose hall UGMK Arena will be built on the site . The foundation stone was laid on October 31, 2019. It is scheduled to be completed in mid-2023 and will serve as a venue for the 2023 Summer Universiade in Yekaterinburg.
