This list of unfinished structures includes important structures that were not completed and some of which are no longer expected to be completed. Many of the buildings listed are in ruins , but some are also in use.
Electrical energy systems
- HVDC close coupling Wolmirstedt - built for the German-German exchange of electrical energy.
- Elbe project - high-voltage transmission system that did not go into operation due to the Second World War .
- HVDC Ekibastus Center - high-voltage transmission system between Kazakhstan and Russia, abandoned after the end of the Soviet Union.
Skyscrapers

- Sathorn Unique Tower in Bangkok - Shell construction built in the 1990s, stopped due to economic problems.
- Kaliningrad Council House - built in the early 1970s, not finished due to static problems.
- Unity Tower (“Szkieletor”) in Kraków - construction from 1975 to 1979, abandoned due to economic reasons.
- Grand Hyatt Duta in Kuala Lumpur
- Plaza Rakyat in Kuala Lumpur
- Ryugyŏng Hotel in Pyongyang - under construction since 1987, suspended in 1992, construction continues.
- Imperial ruins near Troisdorf - originally planned as an airport hotel, blown up in 2001.
Industrial building
- Crimea nuclear power plant - built since 1976, abandoned due to seismic activities, among other things.
- Stendal nuclear power plant - construction stopped in the course of reunification in 1991.
- Blocks 5–8 of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant
- GRES-2 Ekibastus power plant - construction of the third unit canceled in 1990.
- Wackersdorf reprocessing plant - construction was discontinued after protests.
- Bertzit Tower near Kahla - plant for processing lignite, construction demolished in 1920.
- Kramatorsk Metal Combine - unfinished chimney of the boiler house.

Sacred buildings
Churches
- Beauvais Cathedral - not finished after two collapses in 1284 and 1573, only the choir and transept were built.
- Sagrada Família in Barcelona - under construction since 1882, interrupted during the civil war in Spain, completion is expected in 2026.
- "Duomo Nuovo", extensive extension of the cathedral of Siena - during the extension in 1339 only the north aisle and facade of the "Duomo Nuovo" were built.
- Leicester's Church in Denbigh - started around 1578, construction abandoned in 1584 due to lack of money; today a listed building.
- “Catedral de Justo” in Mejorada del Campo (near Madrid) - built by Justo Gallego Martínez since 1961 , is to become a church dedicated to Our Lady on the Pillar .
- Strasbourg Cathedral - the south tower was never built.
- St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna - the north tower was not completed.
- Mosteiro da Batalha (Portugal) - unfinished chapel complex in the east of the monastery church.
- Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in New York City - construction began in 1892, construction has been interrupted since then, largest Anglican church in the world.
- Graz Cathedral - the main tower is missing.
- Cathedral of Our Lady in Antwerp - the south tower was never completed.
- Oldehove in Leeuwarden , Netherlands - construction of the tower was stopped due to sagging.
- Sint Catharijnekerk in Brielle (Netherlands) - planned as the largest church in the Netherlands in 1417, it was never completed due to the great fire in 1456 and lack of money.
- Liebfraukirche in Veere - the monumental church was never completed.
- Wetzlar Cathedral in Germany - the conversion of a Romanesque church into a Gothic cathedral was started, but never completed.
- Narbonne Cathedral in France - only the choir, which today forms the nave, was completed.
- Sint-Pieterskerk in Leuven (Belgium) - started around 1400, work on the towers was stopped in 1541 due to poor soil conditions and poorly worked out construction plans.
- Church of St. Mary of the Snow in Prague - only the presbytery was completed.
- Església Nova ( New Church ) in Son Servera on Mallorca - construction was stopped in 1931 due to lack of funds, the complex is now used for open-air events.

- "Austrian Escorial", extensive conversion of the Klosterneuburg Abbey near Vienna into a stately monastery residence for Emperor Karl VI. ; only the imperial wing was realized

Broadcast towers
- Deutschlandsender III - 325 meter high transmission mast, badly damaged in an air raid in 1945 and later demolished.
- Belgorod TV tower
- Müggelberge TV tower in Berlin - started in 1954, but not finished due to the endangerment of the aircraft at Berlin-Schönefeld airfield.
- Yekaterinburg TV tower - the highest industrial ruin, not finished after the end of the Soviet Union. Blown up on March 24, 2018.
- Broadcasting station Bergheim near Salzburg , Austria
- Galitsch radio station , Galitsch, Russia
- Cathedral Tower Cuyahoga , Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, USA
Other structures
- Adenauervilla (Adenauerhaus) near Steffeln in the Vulkaneifel district - the shell of the villa was built in 1955/56, but never completed, which was to serve Konrad Adenauer as a retirement home.
- Großsedlitz baroque garden
- Bismarck Tower Sorau
- German stadium in Nuremberg - stadium for National Socialist fighting games.
- Berlin-Tegel Airport - The second planned hexagonal terminal and the subway connection to the U5 were abandoned in favor of the major Berlin-Brandenburg Airport despite the preliminary construction work.
- Foreshore Freeway Bridge in Cape Town
- House of Tourism in Berlin - demolished in 1964, was located on the north-south axis of the “world capital” planned by the National Socialists at “Runden Platz” (built between 1938 and 1942).
- Knick-Ei von Halstenbek - sports hall, construction period 1995–1998, not completed after the roof structure collapsed, demolished in 2007.
- McCaig's Tower in Oban (Scotland) - unfinished replica of the Colosseum in Rome; the family who financed it became impoverished.
- Unfinished Aswan Obelisk (Egypt)
- Seebad Prora on Rügen - built between 1936 and 1939, partially used since the war; the rest is a ruin.
- Bordeaux transporter bridge
- Kaliakra transmitter , Cape Kaliakra, Bulgaria
- Wardenclyffe Tower , Shoreham, New York, USA
- Watkin's Tower , London - planned in 1889 to compete with the Eiffel Tower with a similar design, but remained unfinished for financial reasons and demolished in 1907.
