Sint Catharijnekerk (Brielle)
The Grote of Sint Catharijnekerk ( German Great or St. Katharinen Church ) is a monumental unfinished Protestant parish church in Brielle ( province of South Holland ) in the Netherlands. The nave is a brick Gothic work , but the tower is made of tuff .
history
The first mention of the Katharinenkirche comes from the year 1280. The foundations of the choir of this church are also archaeologically proven for the 13th century. Construction of a large new church in the Brabant Gothic style began in 1417. In 1456, the tower collapsed as a result of a fire while the construction work was still ongoing. Between 1462 and 1482, the nave and tower were given their current appearance. Due to a lack of money, construction on the church was stopped in 1482 and never started again. The foundations for the transept had already been laid and have also been archaeologically proven to be east of today's provisional closure. The church closes today in the east on the completed two crossing pillars with a simple wall. Preparatory work for the vault like the plant ofService bundles have been carried out, but the church has not received any vaults except for the aisles.
In the course of the introduction of the Reformation there was an iconoclasm at the church by the Geusen in 1572 . The Katharinenkirche belongs to the Protestantse Kerk in Nederland, which was created in 2004 .
organ
The organ was built in 1854 by the organ builder Kam, whereby pipe material from organs from 1582 and 1677 was reused. The instrument has 21 stops on two manuals and a pedal .
