history

Metro bridge over the Irtysh

In 1992, construction of the metro began in the southeast of the Siberian metropolis. At first it was planned to connect the factories in this district with the center. In the meantime the priority has been changed and the section between the center and the housing developments in the northwest is being built. The construction work already carried out on the southern part of the line was preserved in 2004 in order not to deteriorate and to be completed in the long term.

The lack of funding repeatedly delays the completion of the first line. The first station, Alexander Pushkin Library , opened in 2011 and has been used as a pedestrian underpass ever since . The grand opening of the first line was postponed several times and was most recently planned for the 300th anniversary of the city of Omsk in 2016. Nevertheless, the Omsk Metro is still under construction. However, construction has been inactive for years. The construction work carried out so far is currently (2020) only conserved. Projects in the meantime favor the construction of a tram that could use the underground services (e.g. the metro bridge over the Irtysh ), but this project is not making progress either. A network of four lines was planned, but only a short part of the red line and two construction sections of the yellow line to the airport were built, but never completed.

The first visible result is the two-story metro bridge over the Irtysh . In autumn 2005, the upper level was opened for car traffic. At the moment it is not yet clear when exactly the first subways will run between the Biblioteka imeni Pushkina (Russian: Библиотека имени Пушкина, German: Alexander Pushkin Library) in the city center and Sobornaya (Russian: Соборная).

Planned stations of the first line are:

  • Biblioteka imeni Puschkina (Библиотека имени Пушкина)
  • Zarechnaya (Заречная)
  • Crystal (Кристалл)
  • Sobornaja (Соборная)

In the distant future, the metro network will have four lines.
