Metro Ufa

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Metro Ufa is the never completed underground railway of the Russian city of Ufa ( Bashkortostan ). It was built between 1997 and 2005 . Eight stations were planned for the first expansion stage. In 2005 the work was canceled, further construction is not currently planned.

history

From 1997 onwards, the 9.1 km section between the stations Pervomaiskaya (Первомайская) and Sportivnaya (Спортивная) was built. This north-south line should go into operation in 2008 and later be supplemented by an east-west and a north-west-south-east line. Construction was stopped in 2005 for financial reasons. A profitable operation was not to be expected, other investment projects in the city were given preference. A decisive factor may have been that the Russian state only wanted to pay 20 percent of the construction costs and the local and regional authorities could not afford the rest.
