The Chelyabinsk Metro is the underground railway of the Russian city of Chelyabinsk . This has been built since 1992. Five stations are planned for the first expansion stage.

history

Since 1992, the first 8.25-kilometer section between the stations Prospekt Pobedy (Проспект Победы) and Traktorosavodskaja (Тракторозаводская) has been under construction. The opening of the first three stations on this east-west line was not expected until 2010 at the earliest, after the old date of 2007 became unrealistic. As a result, 2014 was named as the new opening date. In 2018, an opening date was not mentioned before 2025.

Stations (planned)

  • Prospectus Pobedy (Проспект Победы, Victory Prospectus )
  • Torgowy Zentr (Торговый центр, shopping center )
  • Ploshchad Revolyuzii (Площадь Революции, Revolution Square )
  • Komsomolskaya Ploshchad (Комсомольская площадь, Komsomol Square )
  • Traktorozavodskaya (Тракторозаводская, tractor works )

plans

The original plans date from the time of the Soviet Union. Since the city has grown since then and traffic needs have changed dramatically, critics argue that the first stage will do little to reduce traffic congestion or improve the transport system. For a few underground stations in the city center, an underground tram could have been installed instead of a separate metro network.

For the more distant future, in addition to an extension of the first line in both directions - following the usual Soviet plans - two further lines are planned: a north-east-south-west and a north-south-east line. The financing of both lines is unclear. The completion of the first line is also being discussed continuously; at the moment, the future of this metro is difficult to predict.
