Route 77
Route 77 was the name of a planned Reichsautobahn in the Hamm ( Westphalia ) region, which had the aim of establishing a connection between the industrial centers in the Ruhr area and Upper Silesia via the Kassel area .
Construction of this Reichsautobahn began in the summer of 1938 in the Rhynern , Berwicke and Erwitte-Schmerlecke area . In 1942, as with route 46 , work was finally stopped due to the war. After the end of the war and further planning until 1962, the route was abandoned in favor of today's A 44 .
During the three-year construction period, various structures were started and some were completed in what is now the municipality of Hamm and Welver . They can still be viewed today. Since March 2013, both the high-rise buildings and the route plots have been registered as monuments in the respective monuments category under number 356 in the list of monuments of the city of Hamm and under number 75 in the list of monuments of the community of Welver .
Line 78 was under construction between 1939 and 1940 as a continuation from Kassel to Eisenach . However, the construction work only included some clearing and earthworks and a motorway underpass in Wellerode , which is still clearly visible today and which later housed an armaments factory.
