Olimpijka is the name for a motorway from Berlin to Moscow planned in the 1970s .

One of the reasons that led to the decision to build it was the approaching time for the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow .

By then, the part from Września to Warsaw should be completed. Work began on the Września - Konin and Nieborów - Warsaw sections, but only the former was completed, the rest of the project was not implemented. From 2010 to 2012 the A2 motorway was built on the same route as the planned Olimpijka .

Section Września - Konin

The construction of this section proceeded very slowly and its first section Września – Slugocin (34 kilometers) was ready for use in 1985. By 1989 the motorway was extended by 14 kilometers to Konin.

In this state, these sections are part of the A2 motorway.

Section Nieborów - Warsaw

Two-lane forest road near Puszcza Bolimowska with asphalt remains and a 700 meter long section of road.

This fragment of the Olimpijka was never completed and only implemented in small parts, for example some viaducts, bridges and underpasses.

One of the most interesting objects were rows of supports that were supposed to carry a viaduct over the planned northern line of the Central Railway Main Line (CMK) to Gdansk (this railway line was never realized either). All objects were demolished with the start of construction of the A2 motorway section from Łódź to Warsaw in July 2010.

The Bolimów - Wiskitki section was shown on some maps as a motorway under construction and on some was even an existing road.
