Bolimów is a village and seat of the rural municipality of the same name in central Poland , in the Powiat Skierniewicki , Łódź Voivodeship . Bolimów is located on the Rawka River .
history
Bolimów already existed in the 10th century. From 1435 to 1870 the village had city status. In 1657 it was burned down during the Swedish flood . From 1792 the village belonged first to Prussia, then to the Duchy of Warsaw and finally to Congress Poland .
During the First World War, bitter fighting between Russian and German troops took place around Bolimów , in the course of which poison gas was used on a large scale. In an offensive at the end of January 1915 , the German 9th Army used xylyl bromide- filled projectiles for the first time against Russian troops . 18,000 gas grenades were provided, but the cold and snow almost negated their effect. At the end of May 1915, German gas troops used chlorine gas with an approximately five percent addition of phosgene against Russian soldiers for the first time.
During the Second World War, the village was occupied by Germany in September 1939 and liberated by the Red Army in January 1945.
