Denbigh [ ˈdɛnbiː ] ( Welsh Dinbych ) is a small town with community status in Wales . It was the capital of the traditional county of Denbighshire until 1888 .
The Eisteddfod , a festival of literature, music and song, took place in Denbigh in 1882, 1939, 2001 and 2013 (as a representative of Denbighshire) .
Denbigh Castle , a ruined castle from the 13th century, stands on the outskirts near the historic town center. In the immediate vicinity are Leicester's Church and St Hilary's Chapel , in the east of the city is the former Carmelite monastery Denbigh Friary .
Denbigh has had a partnership with the German community of Biebertal ( Hesse ) since 1991 .
Within the Denbigh community there are other settlements in addition to the main town, including Brookhouse .
