Bodelwyddan is a village, community and ward in the Welsh Principal Area Denbighshire . The community accounted for 1,794 of the 2147 inhabitants in the 2011 census.

geography

Bodelwyddan is a community in north Denbighshire, a few miles from the Irish Sea coast. Bodelwyddan borders to the west and north on the Principal Area Conwy , more precisely on the communities there Abergele and Kimmel Bay and Towyn . The remaining borders run with communities in Denbighshire: in the north on Rhyl , in the east on Rhuddlan and St Asaph and in the south on Cefnmeiriadog . In addition, the community and Ward Bodelwyddan are congruent.

The village of Bodelwyddan itself is located in the middle-left within the community and is the most important place in the community. Other settlements in the community area include Glascoed, Gwernigron and Little Pengwern. The A547 road and the A55 road run through the community, with the Bodelwyddan settlement on the north side.

Infrastructure

Bodelwyddan has its own Royal Mail post office . Bodelwyddan also has its own church, St Magaret , which belongs to the Mission Area of ​​Aber-Morfa .

Buildings

Bodelwyddan has 68 buildings that have been included on the Statutory List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest . 60 of these buildings are Grade II buildings , the remaining eight Grade II * Buildings . This also includes the following buildings:

  • Bodelwyddan Castle is about a kilometer south of the village of Bodelwyddan and was the residence of the Humphreys family for a long time until it was sold to William Williams , Speaker in the House of Commons , around 1690 . The building remained in the possession of the Williams family until 1918, but was then sold due to financial problems. After it briefly came into the possession of the Army, a private school existed in the building between 1920 and 1982. Since then it has been used as a hotel and art gallery. It has been a Grade II * building since at least 2002 . Public access was prevented in early 2019 due to financial problems and the remaining 99 years of lease were offered for sale by the trust . The sale value is estimated at approximately one million pounds sterling .
  • The Church of St Margaret , also known as The Marble Church (German: Die Marmor-Kirche ), was built between 1856 and 1860 by order of Lady Margaret in memory of her late husband Henry Peyto-Verney, 16th Baron Willoughby de Broke according to plans of John Gibson erected. At the suggestion of the bishop, the church was named St Margaret . The church is nicknamed The Marble Church because of the lavish use of marble inside. The church itself is a Grade II * building .
  • Faenol Fawr was built in 1597 as a country house for John Lloyd, Registrar for the Diocese of St. Asaph, with stepped gables . After it had moved into the possession of the Williams family via the Price family over time, the building, which was mostly used as a farmhouse, was converted in the 18th century. In 1984 it was damaged by fire, now the Grade II * building is a hotel.
