Rhoda Broughton (born November 29, 1840 in Denbigh , Wales , † June 5, 1920 in Headington Hill near Oxford ) was a Welsh entertaining writer.

Life

Rhoda Broughton was the niece of the famous writer Sheridan le Fanu . She was made aware of literature by her family at an early age and encouraged accordingly by her uncle. Her first novel appeared in LeFanu's Dublin Review . As an author, Broughton was very successful in her time and also shrouded in scandal, as her mostly youthful heroines showed quite physical desires. She spent the last years of her life in Headington Hill, where she also died.
