The Cathedral of Narbonne ( French Cathédrale Saint-Just-et-Saint-Pasteur de Narbonne ) in the southern French city of Narbonne is a Roman Catholic former cathedral. Today's Basilica minor has had the status of a monument historique in France since 1840 . With its choir height of 41 meters, it is one of the highest in France.

history

Construction of the cathedral began in 1272. Narbonne was the seat of the archbishop until the 18th century , when it became part of the diocese of Carcassonne through the Concordat of 1801 . Saint-Just-et-Saint-Pasteur received the rank of co- cathedral . Furthermore, she received from Pope Leo XIII. 1886 the title of minor basilica .

The special thing about this cathedral is that it is a ruined building. Only the choir (chancel) was completed and is now used as a church space.
