The Miskolc-Avas TV tower is a 72 meter high TV tower built in 1966 on the Avas mountain near Miskolc in Hungary . The television tower designed by the architects Miklós Hófer and György Vörös has an open-air viewing platform.
history
In 1906 a wooden, temporary observation tower in honor of Francis II Rákóczi was built on the site of today's television tower , the remains of which were moved from today's Košice to Miskolc. The tower was decorated with a flag and other badges by Rákóczi. The first permanent lookout tower was built in 1934 by Bálint Szeghalmy, who bore the name of Rákóczi. After a fire in 1943 the tower was damaged and completely destroyed during the Hungarian uprising .
At the end of the 1950s, broadcasting requirements made it necessary to plan the construction of a transmitter system. The three-year construction work began on August 20, 1963.

The 72-meter-high Miskolc-Avas television tower consists of a concrete needle that tapers from foot to tip and has two pulpits in the lower area. The lower pulpit at 9 meters is an open-air viewing platform that can be reached via two straight staircases. The stairs are made of solid concrete and act like additional supporting pillars. Above is a single-storey, closed tower cage at a height of 14 meters. It can be reached via the open-air platform via a spiral staircase. Both platforms have a hexagonal base and protrude 13.8 meters from the vertical shaft. The tower cage is open to the public and has a bar.
