Ferocactus lindsayi is a species of the genus Ferocactus in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the American botanist George Edmund Lindsay (1917–2002).
description
Ferocactus lindsayi grows individually with spherical to short cylindrical, gray-green to glaucous green shoots and reaches heights of up to 60 centimeters with diameters of 40 centimeters. There are 13 to 18 ribs . The gray thorns are banded. The single, straight central spine is twisting and up to 4.5 centimeters long. The five to six straight or slightly curved radial spines have a length of 2.5 to 3 centimeters.
The bell-shaped, yellow flowers reach a length of up to 5 centimeters and have a diameter of 3 to 4 centimeters. The 1.5 centimeter long, egg-shaped fruits are purple in color.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Ferocactus lindsayi is widespread in the Mexican state of Michoacán on the plain of the Río Balsas .
It was first described in 1966 by Helia Bravo Hollis . The species is so far not well known.
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
