Ferrer Bassa
Ferrer Bassa (* 1285-1290 in Tortosa , † 1348 in Barcelona ) was a Catalan painter of the Gothic .
The illuminator had been in the service of the Aragonese royal family since 1316 . Among other things, he was commissioned to paint two chapels and two crosses in the church in Sitges .
Bassa's clients were also aristocrats or high-ranking clergy, so that his works can mainly be found in churches and castles.
A well-known work by the artist is the cycle of frescoes in the Capella de Sant Miquel ('Chapel of St. Michael') of the Pedralbes monastery . The most famous of these frescoes is Three Women at the Tomb . It was created in the years 1345/1346.
Bassa is considered a pioneer of the art of the Italian Trecento in Spain. His style contained elements of both the Sienese and the Florentine styles.
