Georg von Bertouch
Georg von Bertouch (* 1668 in Helmershausen , Germany; † September 14, 1743 in Christiania , Norway ; actually Georg Bertuch ), whose title of nobility is an invention of later generations, was a composer and Danish-Norwegian general .
Life
As a young man he said he studied violin and composition with Daniel Eberlin . In 1693 he disputed a legal and musical treatise in Kiel : De eo quod justum est circa ludos scenicos operasque modernas , as Spitta reports.
He later entered the military and reportedly participated in more than 22 battles . He corresponded with famous musicians and composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach and Antonio Lotti . When the Hamburg musician Johann Mattheson dedicated his treatise Das Schutz Orchester to 13 famous musicians, Bertouch was one of them. During the last years of his life (1719–1740) he was in command of Akershus Fortress in front of the port of Oslo.
Bertouch did not publish a single composition in his 75-year life. The first scientific edition of his handwritten works was published from 2006 to 2008. An important reason why his name was never forgotten is the 24 trio sonatas in all major and minor keys mentioned by Spitta : XXIV Sonates composées par les Canons, Fugues, Contre points & parties, selon le sistéme de 24 modes & les preceptes du fameux Musicien, componiste & Polihistor Jean Mattheson, a 3, auec la Basse continüe . Since the word “ fugue ” is used here , one might assume that the Bertouch sonata collection was an early example of an imitation of the well -tempered piano , but this question is considered unanswered. The sonatas testify that he was familiar with Arcangelo Corelli's innovations .
