The Ferrer Point ( Spanish Punta Ferrer ) is a non-iced headland on the east coast of Greenwich Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It lies on the south bank of Discovery Bay and separates Montecinos Cove in the east from the Ensenada Rodríguez in the west.
Participants of the 1st Chilean Antarctic Expedition (1946-1947) named the headland as Punta López after Sergio López Angulo, the deputy expedition leader. During the 5th Chilean Antarctic Expedition (1950–1951) the name was changed to Fernando Ferrer Fougá, hydrograph on board the transport ship Angamos during this research trip . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee translated this designation into English on November 3, 1971.
