construction

In 1882, at the request of the Romanian government, the General Staff prepared the National Military Development Plan , which provided for the creation of military complexes in five stages. The work was to be carried out in several stages: first the “Bucharest Fortress”, then a “bridgehead” over the Sereth River near Mărăşeşti , another near Cernavodă , followed by fronts and batteries in the Galați and Constanța areas .

The Bucharest Fortress consisted of a ring-shaped system of seventeen forts equipped with artillery batteries, about 20 km around the center of Bucharest. A total of 18 batteries were divided between the forts in the three sectors.
