Fetească Neagră
Fetească Neagră ( German Black Girl Grape ) is a red wine from Romania and is often referred to as the highest quality in the country. The place of origin is said to be around the city of Uricani on the Prut River . It is closely related to the Fetească Albă and is mainly grown in the southern part of the country, in Moldova , Muntenia , Oltenia , Banat and Dobrogea . Fetească Neagră is an old, indigenous grape variety that produces both dry to sweet red wines with medium to high alcohol content. The wine is deep red in the glass with ruby reflections. It is very strong with a currant hue and good aging potential, which makes it milder. Correspondingly high quality products can be made from it.
Ampelography
The grapes are usually shaped like a large conical cylinder and have branches on the sides. The round berries are black-purple and have thick skin and juicy flesh. Because of their hard skin, they are unsuitable as table grapes . The berries are thick and sit together and usually one behind the other. Their juice is colorless.
The extremely dry and cold-resistant vines (down to −24 ° C) have a short growth and ripening period and do not require rich soil. Lime weathered soil is said to be ideal . They are susceptible to powdery mildew and gray mold . The fertility of the sprouts is only about a third.
Wine economy
The cultivation area in his mother country is estimated at 1000 ha . Its high quality has made it popular in other countries as well. The grape is now also grown in Ukraine, Hungary, Moldova and Bulgaria as well as in France. Synonyms are Poama Coada Rindunicii, Fekete Leanika, Fetei Neagra, Fetjaska Neagra, Leanyka Fekete, Black Girl Grape, Pasareasca Neagra and Peseryaske Nyagre.
Fetească Neagră is mostly matured in barriques or large wooden barrels, which gives the wine a large number of secondary aromas. In addition to vanilla tones, these are mainly roasted aromas. A good acid and tannin structure give the wine a good structure and a long shelf life.
