The fire-extinguishing pond Balkenkamp (short for fire- extinguishing pond on the Balkenkamp , coll. Also simply fire-extinguishing pond ) is a small still water on the ridge of the Egge , a side ridge of the Wiehengebirge . It is located in the northern part of Börninghausen , a district of the city of Preußisch Oldendorf in the Minden-Lübbecke district at 156 meters above sea level. NN, thus on the ridge of the aforementioned ridge in the immediate vicinity of the watershed between the catchment areas of the Mühlbach and the Great Dieck River . The pond is located immediately north of Burgstrasse, which leads from the Balkenkamp settlement up to Limberg with the castle ruins.
The body of water is a natural monument , according to the Natural Monument Ordinance of the Detmold district government for a so-called geological object . with the serial number A.9.20. The signage on the water, on the other hand, identifies the fire extinguishing pond as an extensive natural monument . The fire extinguishing pond is fenced, but is accessible from Burgstrasse and shows visible signs of increasing siltation. Heavy tree growth makes access difficult from the north.

The fire extinguishing pond is not subject to any economic use today. It no longer has the former importance as a water reserve for fire fighting, at least according to the name.

About 40 meters west of the pond there is a seating group that offers space for 8 to 10 hikers to rest. The Knollmann farm is located around 100 meters north of the water.
