In the summer of 1975, the fire in the Lüneburg Heath became the largest forest fire in Germany to date . One of the sources of fire originated on August 10th at lunchtime near Eschede and was therefore the responsibility of the Eschede fire brigade. The fire was able to spread quickly in the local pine monocultures, so that on August 12 even the railway fire brigade from Hanover had to intervene.

As a result of these fires, disaster control in Lower Saxony was reformed, including equipping the fire brigades with the then new TLF 8/18 .

ICE accident in 1998

On June 3, 1998, the Eschede ICE accident was the worst train accident in Germany for 60 years, and at the same time the worst accident involving a high-speed train in the world. 101 people lost their lives when the ICE 884 derailed in Eschede and hit bridge piers. Another 88 people were injured, some seriously.

Shortly after 11 a.m., the Eschede fire brigade was alerted and discovered a mass casualty on site. The disaster was declared around 1.5 hours later .

Furnishing

  • Tank fire engine 16/25: As a replacement for the old tank fire engine, the Eschede fire brigade received a new TLF 16/25 (16: 1600 liters of water delivery rate / minute; 25: 2500 liters of tank capacity) in 2000 for its 100th anniversary 2900 liters was enlarged. It is mainly used to fight fires, but is also used as a support vehicle for the rescue vehicle in traffic accidents. For example, a hydraulic rescue kit ( cutter and spreader ) and a power generator are part of the special loading of the vehicle . In addition to surrounding lights, the TLF has a fixed tripod on the roof and a loose tripod in the equipment room.
  • Emergency vehicle: The Eschede fire brigade has an emergency vehicle 2 for accidents in road and rail traffic . The rescue vehicle was purchased in 1992. His special load includes a multicut saw and a flame cutting device.
  • Fire fighting vehicle 20/16: The fire fighting vehicle 20/16 is the newest vehicle of the Eschede fire brigade. It replaced a 16/25 tank tender in summer 2010 and is used for fire fighting and technical assistance. The chassis is a MAN TGM  13.290, the body comes from Rosenbauer (model ES).
  • Löschgruppenfahrzeug 8: The Löschgruppenfahrzeug 8 is used, unlike many volunteer fire departments in Eschede only as a support vehicle. Its main task is to pump extinguishing water, which is why it has around 900 meters of hose material. It is also used for personnel transport and by the youth fire brigade .
  • Team transport vehicle : The team transport vehicle (MTF) is used to transport the volunteer fire brigade, their youth fire brigade and the music train . It is not only used to transport personnel to the site, but also as the command vehicle for the 4th platoon of the Celle district readiness. The MTF has been part of the FF Eschede vehicle fleet since 2001.
