Fidèle Sutter
Fidèle Sutter (actually Francesco Gaspare Giuseppe Sutter , born March 16, 1796 in Ferrara , † August 30, 1883 ibid) was an Italian Capuchin and first Vicar Apostolic of Tunis .
Sutter, son of Swiss parents, was born in Ferrara, where he attended the seminary of the Capuchins and entered the monastery of San Maurelio. He was ordained a priest in 1818, and from 1843 he was provincial superior of the Capuchins. In 1844 he was sent as the first Vicar Apostolic to the newly established Apostolic Vicariate of Tunis in 1841 , for which he was ordained titular bishop of Rosalia in 1844 . In 1881 he resigned from office and was named titular archbishop of Ancyra . He returned to his home monastery in Ferrara, where he died.
