Fiete Felsch

Fiete Felsch (actually Ernst-Friedrich Felsch ; born December 26, 1967 in Herford ) is a German jazz musician and university professor.

Life

Fiete Felsch was born in Herford and attended the Katharineum in Lübeck . He studied saxophone with Herb Geller in Hamburg. In 1987 he was one of the first members of the Federal Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Peter Herbolzheimer . From 1989 he was a scholarship holder at the University of North Texas . In 1990 he was awarded the saxophone prize of the Northern American Saxophone Alliance in the USA and was named “most outstanding student in jazz studies”. He founded the quintet Fiete Felsch Group , which is dedicated to the music of the brothers Cannonball Adderley and Nat Adderley .

In 1995 he became the first alto saxophonist in the NDR Big Band . Felsch played on various recordings, including the album Wünsche by Hannes Wader , Der Weihnachtsskrug (2002) by Manfred Krug and Reproduction Supermarket (2007) by Die Zimmermänner . In addition to working with musicians such as Al Jarreau , George Gruntz , Albert Mangelsdorff and Nils Landgren , he appeared as a classical saxophone soloist, among others at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Festival .

Felsch has been a professor at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater since 1999 . There he teaches saxophone and improvisation.
