The branch church Obere Fellach on the outskirts of the district of the same name in the municipality of Villach is consecrated to St. Thomas . Paolo Santonino reported in 1486 about the consecration of a "nova ecclesia". The church is a branch of the parish of St. Martin .

Building description

The small late Gothic church consists of a three-bay nave and a retracted choir with a five-eighth end from 1486. The tower with a pyramid roof protrudes slightly from the west facade. In the south-east there is a one- bay, groin - vaulted sacristy . You enter the church from the north through a vestibule and a Gothic portal. A Bohemian square vault spans the nave .

Facility

The high altar from the second third of the 17th century shows Christ and the apostle Thomas on the altar panel, the figure of St. Florian is in the top . The painting from 1771 on the north side altar depicts the Visitation of the Virgin Mary , the top picture shows the Apostle Bartholomew .

The southern side altar is a winged altar created around 1520, which was previously set up as a high altar. Older than the altar are the paintings on the inactive wings, which were painted around 1430 to 1440 by the Wiener or Wiener Neustädter Werkstätte around the master of the St. Lambrecht votive panel. The Kistler (carpenter) work was probably carried out in Villach shortly after 1486. The shrine contains the statues of Saints Nicholas and Thomas, which were probably made in the Nikelsdorf workshop in the early 16th century. The paintings on the movable inner wings show the Annunciation , the birth and baptism of Christ and the beheading of John . The outer wings depict scenes from the legend of Thomas: the unbelieving Thomas, Thomas walking on iron spikes, martyrdom by lance-piercing and Thomas giving the Lord's Supper on Easter day. The saints Ursula , Maria Magdalena , Margareta and Barbara are painted on the front of the inactive leaves . The half-figures on the front of the predella represent Saints George , Martin , Christophorus and Rochus .

The church also has a figure of Christ Salvator carved in the Nikelsdorf workshop around 1515, which was probably used as an altarpiece in the past. The 17th century organ was restored in 1986.
