Filial church of St. Isidor

The St. Isidor branch church is located in St. Isidor in the municipality of Leonding in Upper Austria . The Roman Catholic branch church of St. Isidor of the parish church Leonding-Hart belongs to the deanery of Traun in the diocese of Linz . The church is a listed building .

history

The church was built from 1951 to 1952 according to the plans of the architect Hans Arndt and expanded from 1983 to 1984. It is located in the St. Isidor children's village of Caritas. It is a modern church building using elements of the homeland security style . A special feature is the fact that the church is located on the 1st floor and can be reached via a staircase under the arcades.

architecture

The church, a two-storey building with a rectangular floor plan with a hipped roof and a high church tower on the side, which was subsequently raised , is a multi-purpose building, as a chapel and assembly hall. In 1983/84 the building was expanded to the east and the tower was raised to several storeys.

The entrance front is characterized by three high arched arcades, which form an open vestibule with a staircase leading to the church on the upper floor. There is a gym on the first floor. To the side in the north-west corner stands the high tower, which is broken through by lower arcades on the ground floor. Corresponding to this, there is also a low arcade at the entrance to the church on the opposite south-west corner. The arcades refer to the administration building of the children's village complex. While the smaller ones refer directly to the administration building, the three high arcades create a hierarchy in favor of the church. The side fronts are accentuated by the high rectangular windows on the upper floor, which overlap the eaves like a gauplet.

The spatial impression of the interior of the church is determined by the pointed barrel vaulting down to the floor, the shape of which is also determined by the roof structure, but is not visible from the outside. The high rectangular windows that break through the eaves are presented inside, invisible from the outside, as deeply cut segmental arched windows.

Furnishing

The front wall (apse / altar wall) is occupied by a monumental wall painting with a multi-zone depiction of the crucifixion of Christ. In the framing outer zone are the representations of the evangelist symbols in mandorels on the side and the archangel Michael with scales on top. The inner zone, which in its outer shape adheres to the vaulted ceiling, is dedicated to a two-zone representation of the crucifixion of Christ divided by a horizontal band of clouds. In the zone below the band of clouds is the lower part of the cross, flanked on the left by the depiction of a woman, probably a mother, with a girl praying, on the right with the depiction of a boy praying with a nun, both in front of architectural accessories. In the zone above the clouds is the crucified one, flanked on the left by the Mother of God standing on the cloud, on the right by an angel with a child. Above the crucified one the symbols for God the Father (hand) and the Holy Spirit (dove) can be seen. This turns the representation into a kind of modern mercy seat. Opposite the main altar is a wooden gallery with an organ. The church is furnished with wooden pews. The door to the sacristy is even included in the painting of the altar. The interior with well-designed details, such as B. Confessional doors and fittings, dates from the time it was built or the second half of the 20th century.
