The station building is a narrow rectangular structure east of Yonge Street. On its long sides there are bus stops, from which nine bus routes run by the Toronto Transit Commission ; each stop is permanently assigned to a line.

Stairs, escalators and elevators lead down from the bus terminal to the three underground station levels. The top level collects the various entrances to the bus stops. The middle level is the distribution level , which also serves as a pedestrian underpass and contains a few shops. It is adorned with the metal sculpture Rhythm of Exotic Plants , which was made in 1965 by the Polish artist Krystyna Sadowska. The underground trains run on the lowest level on a central platform. Since Finch is the terminus, traffic is alternated on both tracks. A train can be parked north of the platform if required.

The Finch Bus Terminal is located at the intersection of Yonge Street and Bishop Avenue / Hendon Avenue . More than twenty bus routes operated by GO Transit , York Region Transit, Viva and Brampton Transit operate from this bus station to the regional municipality of York bordering to the north . Two paid park-and-rides with a total of 3,251 parking spaces and a kiss-and-ride are also available to commuters at the same intersection .

history

The station opened on March 30, 1974, along with the York Mills - Finch section. Originally, the entire section between Eglinton and Finch should have opened a year earlier, but prolonged strikes made staging necessary. At the same time, the subway ensured a surge in growth in the then still independent city of North York and the northern neighboring communities.

There are plans to extend the Yonge University Line beyond Finch by 6.8 km and six stations into the suburb of Richmond Hill . The medium-term realization is currently uncertain, as the line is already reaching its capacity limits at peak times and a new signaling system is necessary to allow more trains to run.
