The project Suomi 100 ( German Finland 100 ) describes a series of projects and events that took place worldwide in 2017 on the occasion of the centenary of Finland 's independence .

In mid-July 2017, the number of projects approved for the program exceeded 4,500. In addition, some of the events made illegal use of the project's graphic design.

Projects

Germany

In Germany , the Finnish embassy held a midsummer festival in June 2017 on the occasion of the independence anniversary. Guests included the Finnish Prime Minister Juha Sipilä and the German Vice Chancellor and Federal Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel .

A gala concert is planned for November in the Berlin Philharmonic , at which renowned Finnish musicians from Germany will perform together in a completely new composition.

Estonia

Finland 100 day was held in Tallinn in June 2017 . Among other things, an open-air concert was held on Freiheitsplatz , which was opened by the Finnish President Sauli Niinistö and the Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid .

On the same day, the exhibition 100 Objects from Finland opened at Maarjamäe Castle . The opening speech was given by the Finnish first wife Jenni Haukio .

Finland

The project includes, among other things, the satellite radio Suomi 100 , which will be launched during the anniversary year.

The broadcaster Yle has initiated a Finnish book project that includes radio and television programs from the time Finland became independent from books and literature.

United States

In Minneapolis , the place in September 2017 FinnFest USA instead that of Finnish-Americans was organized. The main event was an orchestral concert conducted by Osmo Vänskä . The Finnish presidential couple took part in the celebrations.

On December 2nd, the Finnish Embassy in Washington, DC is hosting a Finnish Christmas party at Dupont Circle .

As of December 6, a so-called traveling sauna is on the move across the US territory , a campaign aimed at increasing Finland's exports to the United States.
