Finstersee is a village in the municipality of Menzingen in the Swiss canton of Zug .
Location and sights
The village with 394 inhabitants is located at 774 m above sea level. M. on the western slope of the Gottschalkenberg high above the Sihl . The neo-Gothic church of St. Bartholomew by Wilhelm Keller, built between 1867 and 1868, stands in the center of the village . Below the town center on the banks of the Sihl is the conspicuous construction of the Bostadel prison , on the road to Menzingen the Wilersee.
Right by the church there is also Finstersee's small school, which is attended by students from lower grades one and two. The school was founded in 1858. The schoolhouse from that time has been preserved to this day and is right next to the current schoolhouse, which was built in 1947. It only has a large classroom, a workroom and a room for textile design. The four school years attend the school every four years in a large class from all years, which extremely strengthens the cohesion among the students.
