The Fischbachpresse in Texing , Austria is a private or hand press in the tradition of the English private press , as well as the German-language book art movement . It brings out selected texts in small editions, set exclusively by hand, printed in traditional letterpress on a hand press. The editions are limited and partly illustrated by artists. The books are printed on handmade paper and hand-bound.

Foundation and history

The Fischbachpresse was founded in 1990 by the trained typesetter and typographer Lui Karner. He works together with Waltraut Stefan. It was named after the Fischbach flowing past the workshop. The griffin was chosen as the printer's brand . It is a legacy of Franz Wedl, Lui Karners' master printer. In the mid-1990s, the idea of a separate press publication emerged, which was finally implemented in 2000 with the Rialto .

Program and production directory

The Fischbachpresse produces bibliophile prints in-house, as well as commissioned work for other publishers and presses such as B. for The Bear Press . She was also responsible for the design of the last volume of the magazine Philobiblon (45th volume 2001). The publisher's directory names the following publications:

Fonts

The books are set with fonts from the lead type era that were specially cast for hand typesetting. These include Romulus , Cancelleresca Bastarda and Romanée by Jan van Krimpen , Lectura by Dick Dooijes and the Walbaum .

Eggebrecht press

In 1999 the Eggebrecht press collections were added: Shakespeare Antiqua ( Christian Heinrich Kleukens ), Peter-Jessen-Schrift ( Rudolf Koch ), Elisabeth-Antiqua ( Elizabeth Friedländer ), Delphin ( Georg Trump ) and the Baskerville .

Rialto

Since 2000, the press has had its own press brochure, the Rialto . It combines traditional press printing with modern technology: Developed on the computer, it is used with polymer plates for high pressure on the hand press. The font developed by Giovanni de Faccio (df-Type) and Lui Karner (Fischbachpresse) is an Italian Renaissance Antiqua with a strong calligraphic influence. The special quality of the font is also due to the large number of sets, which have their own alphabets for large (Rialto Titling, a capital alphabet), small font sizes (Rialto piccolo up to 14 p in normal, italic, small caps) and semi-bold markings (Rialto Bold in normal, italics, small caps).
