history

The company was founded in 1948 in Hörschweiler in the Waldachtal by Artur Fischer. The first products were loom switches and electric lighters. The invention of the synchronized flash provided a growth spurt in 1949 and the company moved to the neighboring village of Tumlingen. With the S- dowel , an expansion dowel made of nylon in 1958, Fischer became successful in the fastening market. The Fischertechnik modular system was added as a further business area in 1965. In 1980, Klaus Fischer took over the overall management of the group of companies, which at that time achieved a turnover of around 80 million euros with 1,480 employees. Under his direction the internationalization of the company was advanced. The products were also expanded to include chemical and metal anchors from this time on. In 1982 Fischer entered the production of automotive components with the CBOX. In 1993, Fischer took over his competitor Upat from Emmendingen, followed by Rocca in 1997. The automotive sector was spun off into the independent Fischer automotive systems GmbH & Co. KG in 2001. A limited company was also founded for Fischertechnik in 2004. The process consulting branch started its activity in 2004 with the establishment of Fischer Consulting GmbH. Since 2009, Fischer has been manufacturing wood screws in addition to fastening systems. In 2016 Fischer took over a manufacturer of electronic assemblies, LNT Automation GmbH.
