Artur Fischer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Artur Fischer (born December 31, 1919 in Tumlingen (today part of Waldachtal ); † January 27, 2016 there ) was a German inventor and entrepreneur . With around 2,252 patents and utility models, Fischer is one of the most productive inventors in the world. In 1958 he brought the S- plug onto the market, in 1965 fischertechnik .

Life

The eldest son of the village tailors Georg and Pauline Fischer attended secondary school in Dornstetten from 1930 to 1933 and then completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith with master locksmith Wilhelm Müssig in Stuttgart. He resigned from the Hitler Youth . As he wore glasses and had no high school diploma, he was denied the desire to become a pilot or officer. Instead he was employed as an aircraft mechanic with Jagdgeschwader 52 . With this unit he got into the pocket of Stalingrad , which he said he could leave with the last plane. In Italy he was later taken into British captivity , from which he escaped, and returned home in February 1946. A job in Edgar Rößger's engineering office was soon spoiled by a new employee.

On May 27, 1947, he married Rita Gonser (1925-2013) in Freudenstadt, the daughter of Max and Wilhelmina Gonser from neighboring Lützenhardt. In 1948 he founded a one-man workshop in Hörschweiler. After a Bocholt weaving mill advertised a loom counter in exchange for textiles, he made one out of cartridges. Electric firelighters followed. When he wanted to have his daughter, who was born in June 1948, photographed, the photographer refused to handle the magnesium flash bag and fuse in the small attic apartment because she feared an acute fire hazard for the wooden roof. He then developed a synchronous flash that was exhibited at photokina in 1950 and subsequently marketed by Agfa . In 1956, he received a visit from his former mentor Lord, who now banisters forged and promised by a new heavy-duty dowels great relief during assembly.

Inventions

Artur Fischer was one of the most productive inventors in the world. By the end of 2013 he had registered a total of 1136 patents and utility models. 570 patents have been granted in Germany. He stands in a row with Thomas Alva Edison . However, Fischer's German patent and utility model applications are not directly comparable to Edison's US patents due to the different patent laws.

Fischer's most famous inventions include the polyamide S dowel, launched in 1958 , the “ fischertechnik ” modular system and a flash unit for cameras with synchronous triggering (1949). Another invention was dowels for fixing broken bones in 1970. One of his latest ideas - a compostable and edible children's toy made from potato starch and colorful food coloring - he developed in 1998 for the fischer TiP craft system . At the age of ten, Fischer's joy of playing and exploring was decisively encouraged with the gift of a Märklin metal construction kit for Christmas 1929. This experience later led him to arouse the curiosity and desire to experiment in other children with new modular systems. Fischer's role model was the German engineer and writer Max Eyth from an early age , whose views on inventing made a strong impression on him.

In 1980 he passed the Fischerwerke he founded in 1948 to his son Klaus Fischer . In 2018 the group of companies achieved a worldwide turnover of approx. 864 million euros, the majority of which was still with fastening technology ( dowels , etc.). The company produces more than 15 million dowels every day.

In 2001, Fischer established the Artur Fischer Inventor Award Foundation together with the Baden-Württemberg Foundation . It is endowed with 1.5 million euros in capital and, according to its own statements, is dedicated to promoting science, research and education. Every two years the foundation awards the Artur Fischer Inventor Award Baden-Württemberg (AFE) . The ninth award ceremony took place on July 12, 2017, with a total prize sum of 36,000 euros.

In 1999, his daughter Margot Fischer-Weber accused him of inducing her to waive hereditary and compulsory portion, taking advantage of her good faith and hearing impairment. Artur Fischer sued his daughter and obtained the omission of various statements in court.

On June 17th, 2014 Artur Fischer was awarded the European Inventor Award for his life's work.
