Fyodor Fyodorovich Cherenkov

Fyodor Fjodorowitsch Cherenkov ( Russian Фёдор Фёдорович Черенко́в ; * July 25, 1959 in Moscow ; † October 4, 2014 ibid) was a Soviet football player and Russian football coach.

Cherenkov went through the Spartak Moscow Football School since 1971 and was a regular in the first team from 1977 to 1990. He won the Soviet championship three times with Spartak (1979, 1987 and 1989) and the Soviet Cup in 1987 . In 1983 and 1989 he was voted Soviet Footballer of the Year .

In 1990 Cherenkov went to France for one season at Red Star Paris , where he could not assert himself. He returned to Russia in 1991 and played again for Spartak Moscow. In 1993 he and his team became Russian champions . In a total of 398 league games for Spartak, he scored 95 goals.

Cherenkov was the captain and leader of Spartak Moscow in the 1980s. The midfielder and excellent technician was very popular with the team's supporters. Despite his success with the club team, he never took part with the national team in a World Cup or European Championship. In total, he came to 34 games for the Soviet national team , in which he scored 12 goals. He won the bronze medal with the Soviet team at the 1980 Olympic Games .

After his active career as a footballer, Cherenkov was since 1994 in the coaching staff of Spartak Moscow and played regularly in veteran teams of this club.
