Fjord1 (pronounced Fjordein) is a Norwegian shipping company based in Florø , which operates various ferry lines on the Norwegian west coast.

history

Fjord1's roots go back to 1858 when Nordre Bergenhus Amt opened its first steamship line. From this the company Fylkesbaatane developed, owned by the province ( Fylke ) Sogn og Fjordane , one of the founding companies of Fjord1. Through various mergers, u. a. With the regional ferry company of Fylke Møre og Romsdal , today's company gradually emerged.

In 2018, Fjord1 transported 21.6 million passengers.

Business areas

In the 2010s, Fjord1 sold the land-based transport services (passenger and freight transport by bus and truck) that used to be part of its core business. Fjord1 operates around 50% of the ferry connections within Norway with a fleet of around 70 ferries. 7 of the 10 most important ferry routes within Norway are served by Fjord1.

alternative drives

Fjord1 was the first Norwegian ferry company to use alternative drives on selected routes. Since 2006 , Fjord1 has been operating the Mortavika – Arsvågen and Haljem – Sandvikvåg ferry routes with the five Bergensfjord-class gas-powered ferries .

In March 2018, Fjord1 signed contracts with the Havyard Group, which is also part of the Havila Group, for the design and construction of a total of seven battery-electric ferries. Five ferries - each with a transport capacity of 50 cars - are to be built at the Havyard shipyard in Leirvik, Norway. The other two are designed for the transport of 80 passenger cars and are made in Turkey. You will be stationed in Hordaland or Møre og Romsdal.

The electrically powered Hadarøy has been running between Sulesund and Hareid since the beginning of 2019 .
