Flat glass mechanic

The flat glass mechanic has been a state-recognized training occupation in Germany according to the Vocational Training Act since 1991 .

Duration of training and structure

The training period to become a flat glass mechanic is usually three years. The training takes place at the training company and vocational school . The job is designed as a mono job and replaces the flat glass finisher, who was available as a training job from 1951 to 1991.

Work areas

Flat glass mechanics manufacture all kinds of glass panes industrially, for example for shop windows, showcases , doors, security glass for banks and savings banks, but also panes for solar systems and winter gardens. They process flat glass and refine the products by sandblasting , engraving or etching . Flat glass mechanics can grind the edges of glass plates or apply a facet cut.
