Flat storage

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Flat storage facilities are used to store bulk goods such as coal , ore , grain , sugar or road salt . The material is poured onto heaps that are covered with weather-sensitive goods. Flat storage facilities are more cost-effective than high silos , but they require more floor space.

Covered flat storage

The buildings of covered flat stores have a rectangular floor plan for hangars or triangular silos and a circular floor plan for cathedral silos. Large triangular silos are usually fed with a conveyor belt that runs under the ridge and from which the material is thrown over chutes with a tripper car . Cathedral silos are usually fed through an opening in the middle of the dome. Small warehouses can also be managed with a wheel loader. Covered flat storage areas are mainly used for grain, sugar and salt.

Outdoor flat storage

Outdoor flat storage facilities are used for goods that are not sensitive to the weather, such as coal, ore, sand and gravel. Larger warehouses are located at ports where such goods are shipped or received. The storage takes place via stackers , the removal via reloading devices .
