Flatwoods is a municipality with 276 residents (as of 2010) in Braxton County in West Virginia , USA . It gained international fame through an encounter of the third kind , known as the Flatwoods Monster .
history
Flatwoods was first mentioned in 1901. The name is derived from its flat, wooded area. However, maps show that a place with this name already existed in the 19th century.
On September 12, 1951, a UFO sighting , which has not yet been fully clarified, took place here , in which a 2.10 m high creature was sighted, which later went down in history as the "Flatwoods Monster".
Economy and Infrastructure
Interstate 79 is about a kilometer away.
There is a rail connection to the West Virginia & Pittsburgh Railroad , from which a branch branches off towards Sutton .
The Mountain Lakes Amphitheater is located in the village.
Flatwoods Monster is also marketed.
