Flavobacterium flevense is a type of bacteria . The species is one of the Bacteroidetes .
features
The species Flavobacterium flevense is Gram-negative . The cells are rod-shaped, 2–5 µm long and 0.5–0.7 µm wide. The bacterium has no flagella , but like many other species of the genus Flavobacterium , it can move in a gliding motility . The maximum tolerated sodium chloride values are 0–1%. Growth takes place at temperatures between 0 and 30 ° C, best growth at 20-25 ° C. Flavobacterium flevense is aerobic . The GC content of the DNA is 33–34.9%.
Systematics
Flavobacterium flevense belongs to the Flavobacteriaceae family . The basionyma is Cytophaga flevensis , described by Van der Meulen in 1974. In 1996, it was assigned to the genus Flavobacterium by JF Bernardet and colleagues .
etymology
The genus name Flavobacterium is based on the Latin word "Bacterium" (bacterium) and the Latin word "flavus", which means yellow. The latter refers to the colors of the colonies, which often show a pronounced yellow, as is also the case with F. flevense . The species name is derived from the Latin name "Flevum" for the Dutch freshwater lake IJsselmeer . This is where the bacterium was first found.
