Flavobacterium xueshanense is a type of bacteria . The bacteria was isolated in the melted ice of a glacier in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in China (referred to as "China No.1 glacier").
features
The species Flavobacterium xueshanense is Gram-negative . Spores are not formed. The cells are rod-shaped, the length and width are in the range of approx. 0.32-0.38 and 1.04-2.08 µm. It is psychrophilic , growth occurs, as is to be expected based on its location in the ice of a glacier, at the relatively low temperatures of 2–18 ° C, the optimum is 14 ° C. There are pH values of 6.0 - 9.0 tolerated, optimal growth occurs at pH 7.0. 0 - 0.5 sodium chloride (NaCl) is tolerated. The catalase and oxidase tests are positive. Nitrate is not reduced. Flagella are not present, a "sliding movement" (English gliding motility ) does not occur. This type of movement is a characteristic of many other species in the genus Flavobacterium . In contrast to many other species of the genus, the pigment flexirubin is not produced by the bacterium. The indole test is also negative. The GC content in the DNA is 37.2%.
Systematics
Flavobacterium xueshanense one of the family of Flavobacteriaceae , which in turn to the Abterilung bacteroidetes is provided. It was described by Kun Dong, Hongcan Liu, Jianli Zhang, Yuguang Zhou and Yuhua Xin in 2012.
etymology
The genus name Flavobacterium is based on the Latin word "Bacterium" (bacterium) and the Latin word "flavus", which means yellow. The latter refers to the colors of the colonies, which range from relatively pale to very pronounced yellow / orange. The colonies of F. xueshanense show a yellow color. The species name F. xueshanense refers to the place where the bacterium was found.
