The Flechtorfer Mühle is a grain mill in Flechtorf in Lower Saxony and is located on the Lower Saxony Mühlenstraße .

history

The mill goes back to a watermill on the Schunter that was first mentioned in documents in 1370 . In the second half of the 18th century, the mill became a private property subject to inheritance. Before it was sold, it was run by the miller Johann Christian Sack. After his death in 1770, his widow married Georg Heinrich Bäumler, who would later be the buyer, who was a Mahlmüller and son of the master Joachim Jacob Bäumler from Heiligendorf . In 1779 he bought the "Ducal Water-Mahl-Mühle". In 1834, the hereditary interest could be replaced by the law on the replacement of basic charges with one-off payments from Christian Bäumler. His son from his second marriage became the sole owner of the mill. In 1919 a new mill building was built, which burned on January 16, 1928 with 16 grinding chairs, the entire machine system and 900 quintals of wheat, flour and bran. The cause of the fire could not be clarified and the fire damage not covered by insurance led to bankruptcy. In 1932 the miller Walter Thönebe from Königslutter became the new owner.

Modernization and expansion of the mill

In the course of time the mill system was adapted to the current technical standard and no longer operated with water. After the Second World War it was expanded at regular intervals. In addition to flour , finished products such as baking mixes are now also produced on site. In 2009 the company, which has been family-run for three generations, had an annual turnover of 80 million euros. About 1/3 of the production goes abroad.
