Fleetenkieker

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fleetenkieker was in the 16th century in Hamburg , the official name for the employees of Düpekommission that for the navigability and keeping the canals had to worry. Silting up, but also private and commercial rubbish disposal, often disrupted boat and shipping traffic on the inner-city waterways. From the 18th century, this name was passed on to the waste collectors who searched the canals for usable items at low tide . From the beginning of the 20th century disappeared these mostly impoverished from the cityscape, but her disappearance was carried romanticizing the figure of the popular Fleet Kiekers, the high wading boots trudging through the dried-up channels.

Since 1994 the association De Fleetenkieker - Association for Environment and Water Protection e. V. set the goal of clearing the surface water and banks of Hamburg's Alster and canals of debris. In 1997 he was able to initiate the “ Hamburg clears up ” campaign for the first time in the form of a spring cleaning on the Alster. The club's own boathouse stood on a pontoon at Kampnagel / Bachstrasse in the Osterbek Canal until 2014 . It was the former Senate launch stalls from 1926, which was renovated in 1999 with the support of the Bogdol company. The club is currently located on the Osterbek Canal, near the Kaemmererufer pedestrian bridge.

In 2001, the non-profit organization organized the “1000 hands for a clean Alster” campaign under the patronage of Heidi Kabel . According to the motto “learning by experiencing”, he and his volunteer boatmen regularly offer environmental trips on Hamburg's canals and the Alster during the summer months - especially children and young people from the age of six - during which environmental protection is actively pursued.

In 2006, the Hamburg Wasser association made it possible to renovate the two wooden boats Aalweber - named after the brush binder Karl Weber and donated in 1995 by the HEW Environmental Foundation - and Zitronenjette - named after the lemon seller Henriette Johanne Marie Müller and donated in 1996 by BP .
