Flemington is a district of the Australian city of Melbourne , which is located approximately 4 km northwest of the city center. On the track, Flemington Racecourse , every year in November, the Melbourne Cup , Australia's most important horse racing discharged.

In 1839, settler James Watson and other investors bought land in the area and named it after the Flemington estate in Scotland , of which his father-in-law was the manager. Various stores opened in the 1840s. A post office was opened in 1854.
