history

The later Flemming brickworks was founded in 1873 by the merchants Konrad Windmeier and August Egestorff in the early days of the German Empire . Later the owner changed several times.

In the early years of the company - similar to other Berenbostel brickworks - numerous " guest workers " worked, who - due to a shortage of workers - were recruited from the Lipper region to the later Hanover region .

After the First World War and in the year of the peak of German hyperinflation in 1923, the company Bartling, Brothagen and Companie was last recorded as the owner in the commercial register . But shortly afterwards the Hanoverian coal wholesaler Karl Flemming acquired this oldest brickworks in Berenbostel. The Flemmings continued the work as a family company until production was discontinued in the early 1960s.

After the closure, the Flemmingsche Tonkuhle was largely filled in with hazardous waste, but it was later renovated.

The rebuilt drying shed on the premises of the Möbel Hesse furniture store has since served as an event hall

A former drying shed has been preserved from the old Flemming brickworks, which was demolished and rebuilt on the premises of the Möbel Hesse company as a shelter for events.
