Flensburg-Express of the NOB in Padborg (June 24, 2004)

As Flensburg-Express were 2002-2005, the solid features of the regional traffic between Hamburg and Flensburg referred to in the timetable they were initially under the train type FLX out.

history

The route was operated by Deutsche Bahn until 2002 with self-operated long-distance traffic ( Interregio ) and conventional local trains. When the unprofitable IR offer for the timetable change in 2002 was discontinued almost nationwide according to DB information, the responsible authority, the state-wide traffic service company Schleswig-Holstein (LVS GmbH), ordered a replacement service from Flex Verkehrs-AG after a short-term tender . This started operation with modern electric locomotives of the ES64U2 Taurus series from Siemens Dispolok and used passenger coaches. The first class cars and the dining cars were made of former DB Intercity material, while those of the second class were made from Halberstadt express train cars . Externally, all of the cars were painted in silver / orange with the large, blue FLEX lettering, while the interior fittings of many of the cars, which had not yet been modernized when they started operating, were not particularly attractive.

After the surprising insolvency of Flex traffic AG received the Nord-Ostsee-Bahn LVS after re Price inquiry commissioned the market as from 1 November 2003 to a new assignment of the traffic capacity to maintain. However, she was not allowed to use the protected brand name FLEX and only marked her trains with the term “Flensburg-Express” (this is not subject to trademark protection ). Initially, the Dispoloks from Siemens continued to be used, and later Connex's own locomotives of the 185 series . The car fleets largely consisted of former InterConnex vehicles, supplemented by ABm and Bm cars in dark green paintwork. There was no longer a serviced dining car as before with the Flex, but the travelers were served by trolley at the seat.

The DB, through its subsidiary Regionalbahn Schleswig-Holstein , was ultimately able to win the tender for the route . Since December 2005 the regional express, advertised as Schleswig-Holstein-Express , has operated between Padborg and since 2010 only between Flensburg and Hamburg Hbf , making the name “Flensburg-Express” a thing of the past.
