SH-Express in Flensburg

The Schleswig-Holstein-Express was an hourly train of the DB Regio Nord , formerly Regionalbahn Schleswig-Holstein , which connected Flensburg to Hamburg via Neumünster ( timetable route 131). It replaced the FLEX services previously used on the same route . Since the timetable change in December 2015, the connection is no longer referred to as the Schleswig-Holstein Express, but only as the Regional Express 7.

Emergence

Since December 11, 2005, the fast local transport services on the Padborg  - Flensburg  - Neumünster  - Hamburg Hauptbahnhof route have been provided by DB Regio Schleswig-Holstein under a nine-year transport contract . In what is now the third tender for the line, it was able to prevail for the first time against its main competitor, the Nord-Ostsee-Bahn , which had operated the line since November 2003. A novelty in this decision was that the transport service was not awarded to the financially cheapest bidder, but the best overall offer was successful. In a large-scale marketing campaign, the new train was advertised as the Schleswig-Holstein Express , in the timetable it is published as Regional Express and was referred to as SHE on the car status displays . Since the timetable change in December 2010, trains only run to Flensburg; Since December 2014, the RE have replaced the previously two-hour RB Neumünster - Flensburg and are now connected to and from Hamburg.

20 pairs of trains ran every day at hourly intervals.

In addition to the above-mentioned junction stations , the trains also stopped in Tarp , Jübek , Schleswig , Owschlag , Rendsburg , Nortorf , Elmshorn and Hamburg-Dammtor . The travel time for the entire route (192 kilometers) was around two hours. The on-board catering (drinks and snacks) offered at the time with service at the seat was offered by an external company.

Since the timetable change in December 2015, journeys have been made with double-decker cars, in which no on-board catering was offered, the Schleswig-Holstein Express has only been referred to as RE 7 since then.

Since the 2017 timetable change, the RE 7 has been running every hour between Hamburg and Flensburg; From Hamburg to Neumünster there are two double-decker multiple units each running as a double unit, one part continues to Flensburg, the other to Kiel.

Vehicle use

Applied electric locomotives came 112 series with seven cars (one of the first class) existing push-pull trains . These cars are currently current color scheme of DB Regio painted, but have special decoration features such as the blue and white trim on the roof (along with the usual for DB Regio Verkehrsrot the car, the colors of the flag of Schleswig-Holstein ) and the labels SH-Express on .

Apart from the control car, the cars used were extensively modernized, former interregional cars, which were upgraded with wooden-look armrests and new seat cushions, among other things. Classic comfort features of long-distance transport such as reading lamps, seat reservation (electronic) and smooth-running bogies have been retained. In addition, n-cars were used.

The optics of the control cars largely corresponded to the regional traffic control cars customary in Schleswig-Holstein, which were made from n-type cars , but they were made from Halberstädter center entry cars of the former Deutsche Reichsbahn and were approved for 160 km / h (n-cars only for 140 km /H). In addition to a sanitary room suitable for the disabled, they offered a snack and drink machine and a spacious multi-purpose room. The control cars used in the SH-Express trains also had pivoting sliding doors instead of the usual hinged folding doors and also had an on-board lift, which made it easier for passengers with restricted mobility to get on. Sometimes, however, an n-car was also used as a control car.

Class 112 electric locomotives with up to five double-decker cars have been in use since December 2015 . The control car and the car with the first-class section are conventional fourth-generation Bombardier double-decker cars, the remaining intermediate cars are new Bombardier Twindexx double-decker cars in the new gray-green NAH.SH design. The previous Schleswig-Holstein Express wagons operated on the RB 77 Neumünster – Kiel line until they were needed for replacement traffic on the Marschbahn and replaced n-wagons there . In winter 2017, when the timetable changed, the RB 77 line was abolished.
