Fleshkiller is a Norwegian progressive death and thrash metal band from Bekkestua , founded in 2013. The texts of the group are Christian .

history

After the group Extol had released their last album so far in 2013, guitarist and singer Ole Børud decided to found Fleshkiller. The line-up was supplemented by singer Peter Dalbakk, bassist Ole Vistnes and drummer Andreas Skorpe Sjøen. From late 2015 to early 2017, the debut album Awaken was recorded and mixed in various locations around the world. In January 2017 it was heard that Dalbakk had been replaced by guitarist and singer Elisha Mullins. In June 2017, the signing of the contract with Facedown Records for the release of the album in the USA and Canada as well as Indie Recordings outside of North America was announced. The album was released in September of that year. It had been mixed by War-of-Ages and Hope-for-the-Dying guitarist Jack Daniels .

style

According to Patrick Schmidt from Rock Hard , Awaken is suitable for fans of progressive thrash and death metal. In an interview with him, Ole Børud cited classic Thrash and Death Metal bands such as Death , Sepultura , Pestilence , Believer and Kreator as inspiration, combining these influences with a progressive approach. But there are also influences from bands like Steely Dan . In his texts he treats everyday things on the basis of his Christian faith. Dominik Rothe from Metal.de wrote about Awaken that "an impressive mix of hard Death Metal with lots of melodic guitar and vocals is offered". The music almost sounds like a "softer" version of Swedish Melodic Death Metal bands from the Gothenburg School like At the Gates and In Flames . Sometimes the group almost drifted into Metalcore , the vocals and some guitar passages were too melodic for him, so that the music almost sounded happy. Philip Trapp from hmmagazine.com also reviewed the album and described the music as a mixture of death and thrash metal, which is also combined with the precision of progressive rock . The songs are catchy and fast played and with both sonorous singing and growling . The music can also be described as a mixture of The Burials In the Taking of Flesh and Extol's self-titled album.
