Nettle cultivation

During the First World War and for a few years afterwards, in the Havelländisches Luch, the great nettle was also grown around Fliederhorst for fiber production. A nettle factory was set up at Fliederhorst to process the nettles, and their production was soon discontinued because it was economically unprofitable. Attempts to restart production during the Second World War were equally unsuccessful and were quickly abandoned. Even today the great nettle can be found in large numbers as a weed on the meadows and pastures in the Havelluch; perhaps this is due to the earlier cultivation.
